The HOMESCHOOL MELTING POT is an INCLUSIVE support group open to all homeschoolers in Las Vegas and surrounding areas. We value and respect our different educational philosophies as well as our diverse religious views and affiliations. Because we have different backgrounds, we require acceptance (or at least polite toleration) of all members. Our only rule is that we must remain a safe haven for ALL homeschoolers! Our common ground is that we are all home educating, and we have children who just want to have some fun!
It is our hope that the Homeschool Melting Pot can serve a need here in Las Vegas for those wishing to belong to an INCLUSIVE support group where different educational philosophies and diverse religious views and affiliations are valued and respected.
Benefits of membership include various social and educational opportunities, such as, but not limited to:
Park days at various parks within the valley
Monthly Activities Skate Day, Family Bowling, and Gymnastics (Fall through Spring)
SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUBS Scholastic book clubs are an excellent opportunity to obtain terrific literature and special-interest books at huge savings!
BOOK IT!® National Reading Incentive Program for children in grades Kindergarten through sixth
ALL AGE GROUP ACTIVITIES including field trips and social events, unit studies, and co-ops!
HOMEGROWN KIDS This is our young children's group for those 8 years of age and under. We get together bi-monthly for learning activities and field trips appropriate for ages 4-8. Of course, younger and older siblings are welcome to attend!
T.H.R.I.L.L. (Teen-n-Tweenage Homeschoolers Reaching Independent Life Learning) This is our older kids group for those 9 years of age and older. We get together monthly for social and academic opportunities.
Both of the groups function on an "each one, teach one" basis. They're open to all contributing members and all families participating are expected to host a learning activity or field trip. All the children in your family are WELCOME to attend; however, the activity may only be appropriate for that group’s specific age level.
Support Group E-mail Loop Our support group also participates in an e-mail loop. Members who have subscribed to the newsletter and with internet access can join our e-mail correspondence loop. This loop is particularly useful in sharing information with other families in our support group. We use it to share internet links to sites of interest, when there are changes of plans, when discussing ideas within the group, and just good ole CHAT!!!!
